10 skills for the rota, without the WhatsApp chaos.

the rota group chat never stops. a swap nobody wrote down, a no-show at 6pm, someone's third late arrival this month, and a manager doing the maths on who's allowed to cover for who, from memory, at the worst possible moment. this is 10 Claude and Codex skills for the shift that actually gets built and checked properly, not patched together between orders.

the detail in them is UK law, not general advice, and some of it surprised us. the "right to request a predictable working pattern" that got reported everywhere in 2023 was never switched on; the government confirmed it and repealed the Act before it took effect, so any template built around it is building on nothing. the right that is actually live is the day-one flexible working request, two a year, decision in two months. and under-18 staff get a harder rule than most managers assume: it's not just "no lates", it's against the law for anyone under 18 to work between midnight and 4am, full stop, exception or not.

what they get you:

- build a rota that's legal before you publish it, not checked after
- check a swap against the same limits before a manager says yes
- catch the shift that got no break logged and no exception recorded either
- run under-18 staff on their own numbers, not the adult rota's
- work out what each person is actually owed, not one number for everyone
- cover a no-show without quietly breaking someone else's rest
- handle a pattern request through the right that's actually live
- know what's zero-hours law now, and what's still just a headline
- cost the rota on this year's rates, not last year's guess
- find out who's legally a night worker before anyone else has to tell you

half of them think it through in Claude, half get it done in Codex. one folder each. a minute to install.

most of what they catch is the gap between a shift as planned and a shift as actually worked. the legal break only kicks in once daily working time passes six hours, and it has to be a genuine 20 minutes away from the till or the pass, not 20 minutes of quiet between orders. daily rest is eleven consecutive hours between shifts, which a closing shift followed by an early opening catches out more than any other single pattern. and holiday for anyone on genuinely irregular hours isn't a round number of days at all, it's 12.07% of the hours they actually worked that pay period, rounded up at half an hour or more, a different formula to the one that works fine for your full-timers.

no rota software subscription to buy, no HR consultant on a day rate, no guessing what the 2027 zero-hours changes already apply to when they don't yet. you keep building the rota your way, these just stop it quietly breaking the law while you do.

10 skills. one complete system.
and I'm giving the entire thing away for free

public information only, nothing invented. anything touching a specific worker's contract, a refusal letter or a tribunal risk prepares the work for your solicitor or HR adviser to check. it never pretends to be the advice.
